Dedication of Two Ohio National-Sponsored Cincinnati Habitat Homes on Jan. 23
Homes Part of Largest One-Time Donation to Cincinnati Habitat
Cincinnati - Two Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity homes sponsored by Ohio National Financial Services will be dedicated on Saturday, Jan. 23. The homes represent part of largest ever one-time gift to Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity. The first dedication will be at 9 a.m. at 3450 Hallwood in Avondale. The second dedication will be at 11 a.m. at 3717 Standish Avenue in Kennedy Heights. The community and members of the news media are welcome to attend. David B. O'Maley, Ohio National Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer will speak at both dedications.
The home at 3450 Hallwood will belong to Terelle Scott and Knikita Howard and their two young sons, Terrelle and Tyrell. Scott is an accounting/business major through a partnership program between Cincinnati State and Wilmington College and will be graduating in June 2010. He currently works at PNC bank. Howard is a bus driver with First Student.
The home at 3717 Standish Avenue will belong to John and Yeamata Kollie and their two young children. Refugees from Sierra Leone, the Kollies endured all aspects of civil war in that country before coming to the United States.
To qualify for the Habitat homes, both families had to meet a variety of criteria and work beside volunteers from Ohio National and the community, investing 500 hours of sweat equity into the construction of the homes. Cincinnati Habitat will sell the homes to the families with a 0%, 20-year, interest-free mortgage payable to Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity.
"We are so thankful for Ohio National's generous donation and all of the efforts from their dedicated employees that went into building two homes for these very deserving families. By pledging their continued support over five years, they have demonstrated that they are truly committed to the betterment of the Cincinnati community. They serve as an excellent model of corporate philanthropy," said Tom Salzbrun, Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity, Executive Director. "Our collaborative partnership increases Cincinnati Habitat's capacity to address one of our city's most serious needs - providing decent, affordable homeownership opportunities for hard-working families in need."
In 2009, to celebrate its 100th anniversary and 100 years as part of the Cincinnati community, Ohio National Financial Services announced its commitment to fund the construction of 10 Habitat for Humanity homes over five years. Each Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity home sponsored by Ohio National will symbolize a decade in its 100-year history. The $780,000 gift will fund two homes each year for five years from 2009-2013.
"We are so proud to partner with Cincinnati Habitat. Ohio National's tagline is 'Life changes. We'll be there.' When life changes, we look to the safety and stability provided by home. Habitat for Humanity makes the dream of home ownership a reality for thousands of families across the United States and in our local community," said O'Maley.
Ohio National's gift to Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity year marked the kick-off of a year-long celebration of its centennial. In 1909, The Ohio National Life Insurance Company was founded in a 4th Street office in downtown Cincinnati. The company grew steadily through the first half of the 20th century, despite economic downturn and the Great Depression. By its 50th anniversary, the company had widely expanded, broken ground on a Mt. Auburn home office building and further matured by completing the mutualization process. This mutual company tradition provides a heritage for integrity that continues to direct the enterprise today. One hundred years later, Ohio National is guided by the principle that long-term policyholder value is paramount. Visit www.ohionational.com for more information.
