Delta to Dedicate Cincinnati Habitat Home on Oct. 23
Handicap Accessible Home in Avondale part of Delta's Six-City Homebuilding Effort
CINCINNATI - Delta Air Lines will dedicate its handicap accessible Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity home on Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. Over 100 people are expected to attend the dedication at 3255 Wolseley Lane in Avondale, including Delta employees, the Habitat partner family and Habitat staff and volunteers.
The Avondale home is part of a nationwide collaborative effort for Delta and Habitat for Humanity to build homes in six cities across America, including Atlanta, New York City, Memphis, Detroit, and Minneapolis. Delta is funding the homes with proceeds from its In-Flight Recycling Program.
"Delta people have a long tradition of supporting the communities where we live and work with more than one million hours of service donated to Habitat for Humanity in the last decade," said Ed Bastian, president of Delta Air Lines. "We are proud to be an integral part of making affordable, decent housing a reality for many low-income families around the world."
Single mother Deandra Eberhart and her two daughters were selected as the partner family for the Avondale home, which will have accessible bathrooms, an open floor plan and plenty of room for necessary medical equipment. The new home will be more functional for Deandra's youngest daughter who is confined to a wheelchair due to cerebral palsy.
To qualify for the Habitat home, the Eberhart family had to meet a variety of criteria and will work beside volunteers from Delta, investing 500 hours of sweat equity into the construction of their home. Cincinnati Habitat will sell the home to the Eberhart family with a 0%, 20-year, interest-free mortgage payable to Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity.
"We are very appreciative of the support that Delta employees have provided to Habitat for Humanity," said Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International. "They have impacted countless lives by participating in building projects around the world. Through a number of other initiatives, Delta has brought important attention to the global need for affordable housing, and we are grateful for their partnership."
