My Maid Service Assists Cincinnati Cancer Survivors as part of Cleaning for a Reason

CINCINNATI - In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, My Maid Service (www.mymaidservice.net), the Lebanon, Ohio-based residential cleaning company, is entering its second year of participating in Cleaning for a Reason (www.cleaningforareason.org), a national nonprofit initiative that offers free professional housecleaning and maid services to improve the lives of women undergoing treatment for cancer.

For Derek Christian, owner of My Maid Service, it was important to become involved with a philanthropic cause when he bought My Maid Service three years ago after a career with Procter & Gamble. He chose to support Cleaning for a Reason, in part because of his father's experience with cancer.

"Cleaning for a Reason is often so powerful because the inability to take care of their family or house can be very painful for someone undergoing cancer treatment," said Christian. "For a lot of the patients we work with, their families are worn out from taking care of them and sitting in doctors' offices all day. It's devastating to watch their pride and joy - their happy home - fall into disrepair."

My Maid Service is one of the only area cleaning services to participate in the program. Once families are selected through Cleaning for a Reason, My Maid Service provides four free cleanings (one a month for four months). Last year, 20 families benefited from this service.

This year, families like Pamela and Glen Smith, of Lebanon, will be using the service. Pamela was diagnosed with biliary cancer just before her 50th birthday and had her first free cleaning on Sept. 30.

Another family, Patti and Adam Hoffman, have used all of their free cleanings from My Maid Service. Patti, who was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer over a year ago, has two young kids and considers the service to be a great relief to her and her family. Lauri and Greg Rogers from Glendale used My Maid Service's Cleaning for a Reason in 2008. Lauri is facing her second round of breast cancer, and her family has been very happy with the cleaning teams.

"It's a tremendous program that takes one more worry off of the cancer patient. It relieves Lauri's frustrations a great deal," said Greg.

"We hope that My Maid Service can take some of the burden off of the patient and family. In addition, for many patients, a clean home is essential due to - often times - weakened immune systems," said Christian.

My Maid Service focuses on home and business owners in Warren, Butler, Hamilton and Clermont Counties.
